I recently applied to Boston College for regular decision. I submitted my application on December 30th (technically the 31st because it was at 12:30 ish) and still have not received an email of confirmation and the link to my applicant status portal. My last name begins with a Y so that might be why I have not gotten an email yet. Does anyone have any idea? Should I email/call the admissions office?
Did you check your spam folder? It took about 2 days for S18 to receive the email but remember that the office would have been closed from 12/31-1/2. Probably closed today due to snowstorm so maybe wait until tomorrow to reach out.
Boston College is closed today, so expect nothing to get done. Likewise, tomorrow may not look good.
You had from August 1 to January 1 to submit your application.
They’ve had it, and a bazillion others, for 3 days, and today is a massive blizzard.
Give them a break, OK?
@katey27 We also submitted a RD application on December 30th, and the email confirmation with Agora portal login creds arrived the next day. What does Commonapp show as application, supplement, and fee status? If all are ok, and you’ve checked your spam folder, then a call to Admissions would be a good idea.
@bjkmom (regarding your 1/4/18 reply) There are many reasons that a RD candidate would wait until December to submit their application. Many times, it’s because they want their application to reflect their most up-to-date senior year awards, scores, and accomplishments that a September 1, November 1, or even December 1 application could not possibly include. These students are feeling enough stress already. With all due respect, the last thing they need is a smarmy remark from another parent. It helps no one.
@katey27 I applied EA and my portal info ended up going to my SPAM. Check there and then just send a follow up email/call if it isn’t there. On your commonapp it will say when your application, recommendations, etc were downloaded. If they have been downloaded I wouldn’t be too worried.
And BTW I waited until the last day to apply to most of my schools. Who cares? I applied to BC 3 hours before the deadline and got in. Good luck!!!
@NervousMAmom My whole point was NOT to criticize the timing of the application… I don’t know the OP; his or her timing has no part of my life. It makes no difference to me when she applied.
It was to contrast the amount of time she had to apply, with the amount of time she was allowing BC to reply.
BC gets approximately 28,000 applicants. If even just 10% of them applied at the last minute, that means they got 2800 apps on New Years Day.
The OP submitted her applicant on a New Years Eve, as did any number of those other 28,000 applicants. A few days later, Boston was hit with a massive blizzard. Anyone who wasn’t a first responder was asked to stay off the roads; they were under a state of emergency.
My point was not to criticize the timing of her application, merely to be reasonable in her expectations for a reply. Under the circumstance, I can certainly understand how she might not have heard within 3 days.
Hence the phrase “Give them a break, OK?”
