Email from UCB admissions about Mar 27 decions?

Cal is supposed to have the best english department in the country...

forgottenhawk,

hmm, I've heard that some regents students didn't receive an email...and someone said that they probably didn't get it because they already knew they got admitted...I wonder......................................

i thought your major wasn't really considered unless applying for engineering? correct me if i'm wrong, please! i was reading this analysis by the sociology professor at cal who assessed the cal admissions process for 2005. very interesting indeed...

And dmission, yeah its no problem. But the answer to your question is that your chances are the same regardless of which major you apply to within arts and science.

Ok -- thanks for the reply, forgottenhawk. I feel a tad bit more optimistic now. :D

by the way, i read that a while ago...it wouldnt be worth reading at this point in time, WE HAVE LESS THAN A DAY LEFT! :)

yayitsjane - Sorry if I wasn't clear in my last statement. I acknowledge the fact that some regents kids have received the email while others have not. There is evidence for and against both theories. Nothing is for certain at this point. Its anyone's game. There is no way to disprove completely one theory or the other.

dmission - No problem. Honestly, I'm not very optimistic about my chances either since I just got rejected from UCLA and Northwestern but hopefully it makes a difference if you apply to a non-impacted major that you have demonstrated interest in.

I thought that they look at majors when you apply to Letters and Science.

No, chances are only impacted in the other colleges like engineering. I do recall seeing a couple majors in Arts and Science being impacted, but I think its just because they're popular, not because they're competitive. Anyway, it probably won't make a difference for most people within arts and science.

Unless of course you mean they look at it and admit you to that major. They do do that, if you are accepted.

I know a senior at CAL because I work with her, and she said that your application is also reviewed by what you major in. I want to major in sociology and she said "Oh they're always nice they'll be empathetic etc. .. because they're in sociology!" She said it as a joke sort of but she also meant it. So apparently if you said you'd major in Math you might get a meaner person? haha..I don't know. I've heard this from other people too. What'd you guys think? Does this make sense? I mean, its an organized way to "distribute" applications after putting them in the "yes" "no" "maybe" piles. al;sdjflkjsdf aaaaahhh, I just want it to be tomorrow already! :s

I think everyone who has posted in this thread should get in, as they care about Berkeley!

I got E-mail #3. Applied to EECS. SAT1(2230). SAT2(800/740/720). 4.25 UC GPA.

Castel-

I'm hoping so! (:

I'm so excited now!! WHOOO! Less than a DAY AWAYYY!

I didn't get one, but i'm an international. Dunno if that's the problem.
Hope that it's sent out according to the date u submitted your app, cuz I submitted mine on the last day.
Or, alphabetically?According to your first name?Cuz my first name initial is Y.

suigenL (post #645) thanks for the link to the full Hout study. i just don't understand how a study could be considered accurate and put out as a press release when it doesn't even mention the three email theory! surely, after all 652 posts and 44 pages on the subject--it has to have something to do with freshman admissions! jk

it's been so random that i'm sure it's not alphabetically. let's stop freaking out and just wait, okay? okay. :)

lol...

it was posted such a long time ago, and it's in the year 2005 =P i guess the three email theory thing is new for 2008, oh how unlucky we are!

Castel - Agreed!

woooo! this thread is cool, lol. i came in super late but i got email #3, if anyone's still even on that? haha. but this is keeping me busy until i pass out from exhaustion in worrying whether or not i got into UCB :]

wow like 18/19 hours until we all know

alright, i apologize yayitsjane...i'm just as nerve wracked as you are, perhaps less nerve wracked since I did receive the email....:( i apologize, my dear.

It's official, this thread now has more replies and views that any other thread on this forum.
