My son applied to ERAU Daytona as soon as applications were being accepted. He received an acceptance letter six days later. A week later, he received a $15,000/year Presidential Award (for 4 years). Just before Christmas break, he received an invitation to apply for the Honors Program. We emailed the chair of the Honors Committee the first of the year. He indicated that they would not be reviewing the application until they returned from the holiday. A representative in the Admissions department told me that Honors Program Scholarships exist but there is no documentation of this on ERAU’s website. I’ve noticed on other forums from this site, women who are current students at ERAU have mentioned receiving a “full ride merit scholarship”. I don’t know if these are offered to out-of-state men or not.
Before the Christmas Break, I spoke with a rep in the ERAU Financial Aid Department. I told her that my son received the presidential award. I asked if there is a possibility for additional Merit Scholarships. She indicated that the team hadn’t even started reviewing applications yet. She said, usually merit aid will trickle through. All final aid will be mailed to applicants in May 2018. She said nothing is final until May.
@BusaGir1 Thanks for the information. Your son’s situation is very similar to my son’s. He had similar stats and scholarship offer.
It does not seem like a good plan on their part to wait until May to give more merit aid. Most people have already made a decision by then, and finances can play a large role in that decision. Especially considering ERAU’s high cost relative to in-state schools. The $15k scholarship does not get the cost even close to an in state school. Coming in after the fact with more merit aid doesn’t help… Oh well. ERAU is not in my son’s top 2, so it is unlikely that it matters for us.
Being out of state does not help your situation either. Florida residents with your son’s stats qualify for the state’s Bright Futures program that would cover the equivalent cost of an in state Tuition + Fees (~$6-7k per year) and there is also a Florida Resident Access grant ($3k per year).
Best to you and your son.
