<p>$10 - $20 K will not seem like such a big deal once you are working. You could make that much in one job over another. I would look at this whole thing big picture. Just an idea…do you think you should call Brown’s admission and explain the whole thing? They have tons of qualified kids they would love to give a spot to – maybe they would be glad to let you out of the contract. But do it now so someone else can have that spot.</p>
<p>@gratisfaction: The reason that more people don’t use ED to gain an advantage and then break their contracts is because (a) it would be unethical to do so, and (b) people assume the contracts to be enforceable, and assumptions about enforceability are sometimes more important than actual enforceability.</p>
<p>As for why this sort of contract may be unenforceable: for one thing, they are usually contracts with minors, which can usually be disaffirmed. There are plenty of other issues. I am not a lawyer, and I am not looking at a particular ED contract.</p>
