I am an ED II applicant and my stats are: 1460 CR+M; 2180 SAT (superscore), top 6% (39/618) ranked GPA, and I applied for financial aid. Yet, after reading through some threads, in particular one that said the applicant was off the waitlist after he withdrew his request for financial aid, I started to wonder if I shall do the same.

Emory is my number one choice. Even if I don't get financial aid, my parents will support me. So should I take this step?

Also, is there any deferral for ED II applicants this year? Or is it a straight acceptance/rejection?

Hey! You have similar stats to me, and I applied ED1 and will be attending Emory next year:). I applied for financial aid, even though I am in the same circumstance as you- my parents would support me even if we didn’t get aid (which we didn’t actually, haha). Honestly, I would stick with keeping your request for financial aid, especially as your stats are good and you showed interest by applying ED2. Hopefully you’ll get in and we will be classmates next year! Good luck!

Hey college444life, thanks for your input. Are you not qualified for financial aid or did you withdraw the request?

I don’t think an early decision applicant that much above the mean/median of enrolled students will be denied or waitlisted for requesting financial aid. They’ve probably already let in enough full pay students (who may or may not be lower caliber than the OP. Likely lower going based upon Emory’s current stats) through ED1. In a normal year, students like you two would be the 75% among enrollees. I think more marginal applicants are susceptible to such tactics as you mention.
