Emory and Tufts Syndrome

Looking at the rd decisions thread, it seems like they've rejected a lot of really qualified applicants. Does Emory have the whole Tufts Syndrome thing going even a little bit?

First of all, ‘Tufts syndrome’ does not exist. Tufts simply rejects applicants who are uninterested in their schools and have no potential despite their “high stats.” This led to rejected applicants grumbling that they got rejected because they were too good.

Same with Emory. People simply believe high GPA/SAT scores will place them in any top schools. That’s not the case in reality, however.

So neither Tufts nor Emory has ‘Tufts syndrome.’

Alright got it. What would be a good way to show interest in Emory? Even though it’s not my #1 choice, it’s up there as one of my top choices. Sorry if that sounded a bit arrogant or anything.

Sensation is 100% correct. People with good stats think they got rejected from College X because they had good stats. I mean, cmon really? No, its because someone did not show any interest in that school leading the adcoms to believe they just applied just for the hell of it. If you want to show interest, visit Emory, email your regional counselor, order their video from their website.

Order the video on the website. Visit the campus if you have the time and resources. IF there, try to meet with someone in your department. If you can’t, email an Emory rep (find email addresses on their website) and tell them that you cannot visit, and ask how you can learn more about the school. Find out if any reps are coming to schools near you, and go out of your way to contact that rep and meet with him/her.

Alright then, thanks a lot for this advice guys.
