So… the only reason you haven’t left is because Emory is extremely good at literally the most important aspect of college?

Also, Bernie, you need to quit attacking people every time they have a different opinion from yours.

@aluminum_boat: It wasn’t that he had a different opinion so much as how it was presented. It was presented in a way that kind of depicts others as those who don’t like those things as people who don’t value or get the “true college experience”. I really resent that. I’m sorry, but you know I do. I can see the value in what they like, but I don’t like the naivete nor the fact that it was basically stated on multiple occasions that the things that others on this campus engage themselves in are not “fun”. I just find the idea of a person who is indeed highly engaged in campus life in various capacities but is not having fun as somewhat hilarious and somewhat sad. I just have to wonder how hard the person is trying. But again, maybe the person feels as if they shouldn’t have to try. However, that’s the way I feel about academics (I think that’s supposedly the reason the place costs 60k, so they say. I could have gone to UGA if I wanted optionally good academics and a great social life and perhaps damned well would have if I had to pay for Emory). I am willing to accept or respect others people’s opinions if presented well and defended more or less fairly. Like if you say, “nothing else is fun here”, better back it up. Show me how the people participating in those things are bored through some data or something. Just because I would be bored doing them does not mean most people would (just like, if I am not challenged by a course doesn’t mean that most or many people aren’t and vice versa. These are things I have had to accept).

Also, please don’t bring up the T-shirt thing. Tons (probably most or close to it) of people wear Emory gear and some people where other gear (I actually kind of make fun of people who wear it for kicks, primarily I know that many of those people actually would not want to be at those schools and don’t really even know it). The same happens at places like Georgia Tech which has a solid sports scene and a solid amount the traditional school pride that this person values. I feel like we all see what we want to see to some extent sometimes and I am certainly guilty of it. I think at one point I thought sort of like this person, but then I realized it was no where near that bad even in comparison to other places that had those things (which is why I feel you must try pretty hard to not have fun. If I wasn’t having it, I kind of realize that much of it was kind of my fault or had to do with extenuating circumstances). Sometimes my feelings simply came from wanting something new (I used to actually escape over to Georgia Tech very often and also attend parties at Georgia State. I have no shame) more so than anything else and then I reflect on the tons of good times I had and realize that I wouldn’t really have had it anyway else. I was at that stage at about junior year (which was when I truly began having a blast academically and socially. 2nd semester sophomore year was also phenomenal, though not on the academic side unfortunately ).
