Emory Scholars 2011

Only the 200 get the scholarships of at least $11k/year up to full-ride.

I know that the Emory statement says only 200/350 get scholarships, but going through the CC threads from last year I couldn’t find any semi-finalists that didn’t at least get an $11k liberal arts scholarship. Did I miss one?

@ PerCeleritas: What you have to remember, though, is that not all 350 semi-finalists are on this site and not all 350 of them report what they got. If anything, this site presents a much more biased result because people who were granted money would be happy to post about their successes. People who weren’t granted money may be less inclined to admit it.

Applied ED (accepted).

3.6 UW GPA/3.84 W GPA (through first 3 years of HS, it is higher now with senior grades).
From New York.

I was accepted ED so I am lucky enough to have that going for me. Definitely didn’t get my hopes up for it.

Very true Patriotically. It still seems surprising to not have a single person post about not getting a scholarship. Could very well just be the small sample size here though, sure.

I just got my notification today that I’m an Emory Scholar semi-finalist. Does that mean that I will receive a scholarship or does that mean that I am only considered for scholarship money?

Oh nevermind, I just read everything.

I read on some article (maybe it’s on this thread, idr) that said becoming a semifinalist doesn’t come with automatic acceptance into the university, but I’m pretty sure my semifinalist letter commenced with something along the lines of “I welcome you to the Emory University Class of 2015.” Thoughts?

The last sentence of the letter reads “I am happy to offer you a place among us, and I look forward to welcoming you to Emory next fall.” Sounds like you are in :)

If you are a semi-finalist, you have been accepted. It would be pointless to have you apply so early if they don’t give you your admission decision with your scholarship update.

Yeah, I just received news that I am an Oxford Scholar Finalist.

My son is also an Oxford College Scholar Finalist! It was on opus.

Does anyone know if Emory will be mailing actual acceptance letters to semifinalists soon?

Son (semifinalist) received acceptance letter yesterday.

Thanks! I got mine today. Very cool to have the official letter…

So, in the unlikely event I end up a finalist, I have a bit of a problem.

Finalists are invited to go to Emory for all sorts of fun March 23-26. However, MAO State Convention is on the 24th to 26th. Science Olympiad regionals takes place on the 26th as well. As Vice President, I feel its my duty to attend Convention: my thought process is that I signed up as an officer for the whole year, not just first semester or however long I need to for it to appear on my college apps. Same thing applies to Sci Oly, which I’m President of.

It’s a bit early to be worrying, but what do you guys think I should do?

It depends on how much you want to go to Emory. If it’s your first choice, then I’m sure your teammates will understand that the interview is more important in the long run.

Well, Emory is not my first choice, and Scholars’ Weekend (conveniently) comes before I get decisions from most of my schools. It and Rice are my top matches though-- I just decided to shoot at UChicago, Harvard, Yale and Stanford too.

It really depends on if the possibility of a sizeable scholarship is important to you. As far as you being President or Vice president of a club, seriously at this point if you happen to miss an event does it really matter. We all make commitments, and sometimes life gets in the way and we have to adjust. Good luck with whatever you choose.
