Hi everyone, I hope that y’all are having a great time with college applications and all. I am currently an Emory Scholar and I want to be a resource to you as y’all think about applying to colleges. I want to use this platform to clear up any confusion y’all may have the program and answer any questions y’all may have surrounding what we do every year!
Most importantly, please be aware of the scholar’s application deadline because it’s a lot earlier than the regular app’s due date. I’ve had a lot of people tell me, “I would have been a scholar if I had just known the due date.” And I snicker a little.
Also, pardon my long response time. I have a lot of work to do all of the time.
Please comment upon the program on a scale of totally collaborative to totally competitive amongst the students for learning and grades. My DD20 is hoping to have the stats for med school when UG is over.
Hi! I’m really interested in the Scholar’s Program. I know that numbers aren’t everything so it’s hard to judge, but do you have an idea of the stats for average scholars and how competitive the program is?
Hi, do you know how many people are accepted to the Goziueta Scholars program and about how many applicants there are? I really really want to get this, because college will cost way to much otherwise. It also is a guarentee into the business school which I like.
I’m not gonna ask much about the actual program because Goziueta scholars is different from Emory Scholars, but do are the benefits of the program other than the $$$ very good?
Hi! How many Emory Scholars are accepted? Also, how many international students are in the program this year? And please tell us about your stats, extracurriculars and all that, it would help a lot!
Thanks in advance!
Hi, it is extremely collaborative. We genuinely enjoy each other’s company and want to see each other succeed. I can safely say that I’ve made a lot of life long friends in the Scholars program. Emory’s premed/dent program is fairly competitive, but I do not know much about it because I am not a pre-med. For the most part, the ones who work hard are rewarded.
I don’t quite know everyone’s stats, but I can say that mine are above average. I think that it is more about the extracurriculars and community impact in terms of getting selected for the candidate’s weekend.
Not sure about the Goizueta Scholars program as it is a separate thing. Scholarships in the Emory Scholars program vary. The main difference is that they get to take seminars in the BSchool all 4 years. I know a few and they are at Bain, Simon Kucher, and Deloitte to name a few destinations. I am biased, but the community of the scholars program is far more rich in that there are a great number of people from many walks of life. I don’t think you could go wrong either way.
Don’t know about exact numbers, but I think its a max of 20 that are admitted as freshmen and more are added as Dean’s Achievement Scholars. I am also unsure of the number of international students. Stats wise, I was at the high end of the mid-50, so not particularly high.
In highschool, I did a lot of things. Here goes: 2 varsity sports, 2 museum jobs, worked at a public health clinic, investment club, honor society, TA physics&geography, ceramics. My interests are all over the place, but I think there are more pointy individuals than eclectic ones. I also went to a magnet school, but did not take a whole lot of AP’s. I mainly did what seemed interesting to me and I am very privileged to have had my parents back me up in all of my endeavors. I’d warn against doing things to boost your resume because you’ll end up not enjoying it. HS is supposed to be a section of the best time of your life (college too) so please enjoy it. Most importantly, you’ll be better at what you do if you can sit down and do it for a long time. That’s just my two cents.
ALSO: DO NOT FORGET TO GET YOUR APPLICATIONS IN BY NOVEMBER 15. You don’t have to ED and can just send in a regular decision application. Don’t be one of those people that says “I would have been a scholar if I knew about the deadline.”
To that I roll my eyes, count to ten and bite my tongue. I always want to tell people that tell me that that they did not do the research on Emory because it’s easy to find if they just look. So kudos to y’all on this forum because y’all are doing research!
