Regardless of the results, anyone know how well semi’s fare at other top colleges? Info on other sites/posts is not clear…

Supposedly they fare well. Emory selects semis based on the candidates they believe will be admitted to other top schools. The scholarship is designed to draw in the best applicants.

Not advancing isn’t something to be ashamed of, however. If you look at some of the impressive stats of the non-semis, you should be very proud to have made it this far. I’m sure the non-finalist semis put together would be nearly as strong academically as the finalists put together. It’s all about what Emory is most looking for, so who knows?

Semi finalists do fare well! I got into Yale and Vanderbilt and a few other places so far.

I was so suprised when I found out I was a semi finalist!!
Since I applied ED, I thought they wouldn’t really care about me so I didn’t even put my hopes up. Also, my stats didn’t seem any impressive compared to many other ones…
I wonder when they’ll let us know about the final 250!

Congratulations and best of luck to all of you who will be participating in the final round. Those of us that are looking at Emory for the following year would apprecaite any information as to your stats and your outcome, i.e. what award you were given after the process is over. Again, best of luck to you all.

I was recently selected as an Emory Scholars semi-finalist, and I’m waiting to see if I am a finalist. Emory is my top choice, although I have applied to 19 schools. I’m anxious to hear about the decision, as it may be my only chance of actually attending Emory as an undergraduate.

I do have a question about the interview weekend, though… my senior prom is on that friday night. If I am selected as a finalist, I know I am required to attend the interview weekend, and I definitely plan to do so if I’m chosen. I was wondering if there was any way I could go to the interviews and possibly leave to go to prom for a few hours… Luckily, the place my high school is having prom is about 10 minutes away from Emory. Do you think that is even a possibility? Prom is from 8-10 and I don’t intend to go to any after parties or anything like that… I just don’t want to miss my senior prom. Anyone have any ideas?

Vsrw95 - You’re not going to be interviewed for the entire weekend. That being said, you’re going to have that time to intermingle and familiarize yourself with the surrounding, your ‘peers’ and simply gather your thoughts. I’m sure if you went for 2 hours that it wouldn’t be an issue, so long you do not return intoxicated in any way. I’d also call and find out the agenda for the night, and ask any alternatives for missing the ‘course’ that you’re going to.

That night all they have planned for you guys is a trivia night so I’m sure if you explained it to them you’ll be fine. They just want you to bond with everyone so you’ll be more enticed to go.

vsrw95, I am pretty sure you’ll be able to attend your senior prom on Friday night. As far as I know, there’s going to be a banquet on Friday night and other fun activities after (it’s a surprise!). There will be no interviews during that time. Don’t worry :)
