by the way last yr 100 emory scholar finalist and 60 oxford finalist invited according to threads from last yr, but it did appear that there were students that were not picked as finalist who found out at the end of jan. they were liberal arts merit winners with 20K merit aid and knew they were into emory/or oxford by end of jan.
Hopefully they will do the same this year!
@momof2eagles I can confirm what you are saying is true. I was awarded an Emory Merit Achievement Award on the Scholars notification date last year. I would assume the same will be done this year.
@FLStudent97 that’s wonderful.
@SnapApp also got request for vocal materials. Scrambling to get submitted by Friday as haven’t auditioned anywhere for college programs prior to this request. Hoping it is a good sign - good luck!
are you both music/arts applicants ?
@teenagecrime I am very involved in music/theater at my high school but did not apply to music/arts program. Request for supplement was unsolicited.
@WaitinginCT good luck to you too!
@teenagecrime no, economics.
@SnapApp but was something in the performing arts one of your main ECs?
@teenagecrime definitely! Do you think it has any bearing on the scholars award?
@snapapp i’ve heard from a friend at Emory that he’s fairly certain if you put music or arts in your top 3 or so, they might ask you for a supplement because they take a few scholars who are talented in those areas. He told me that AFTER i applied, and music was like #8 in my common app. Alas, it is what it is.
@teenagecrime Well, they have a music scholarship offered to like 3-5 students/year. And the thing is, they expect music to become a priority when that person arrives to Emory as the scholarship is actually kind of hosted by faculty in that department. So you wouldn’t want to game the system and then be kind of pressured or locked into committing to what is essentially a music major on top of whatever else you’re doing. Only those displaying super high levels of interest in continuing it should be up for that scholarship.
What day are we hearing back?
@bernie12 ah i did not know it worked that way, in that case, no regrets
heyyyyy i have a q
the website says by feb 6 but in past years they heard back on jan 31… whats the deal??? TOTALLYYYYYY GOING CRAZY OVA HEYAAAA
If it is the same as last year it will be this Thursday.
Many schools have the ability for applicants to submit “arts” supplements thru the common ap and actually encourage students with talents in voice, dance, arts ,music , creative writing to submit supplements as part of their applications. . Emory also has this listed on their website. cut and paste below. Some schools actually have the ability to do this through the common ap “slide room” but emory apparently doesn’t.
Does Emory University accept arts supplements? And if so, is there a recommended format for submission?
Emory University values that many of our applicants are artistically talented and want to showcase those talents for the Admission Committee. Applicants who wish to submit supplemental arts-related information may do so if they feel that the Common Application does not adequately provide the opportunity to detail these accomplishments. There is no additional form that needs to be completed as Emory does not accept the Common Application Arts Supplement. The Admission Committee does prefer that any supplemental arts information be submitted via email to admission@emory.edu. Students are encouraged to provide a link to a website where their materials can be viewed, or save their material in PDF form and attach in their email. We are unable to review three-dimensional items including CDs, DVDs, models, sculptures, books, etc. Finally, we request that student’s include their full name exactly as it is listed on their Common Application, birth date, and application ID number on any submitted supplement materials. Please note, it is important that original items not be sent, as the Admission office is not able to return submitted application materials.
I think its a great sign if you have been asked to submit an arts supplement but I don’t think its necessarily a negative if you haven’t been asked to submit a supplement. Many students have already done this with their initial application(my son submitted creative writing samples since he suggested he was interested in the creative writing program at emory ) So if you listed on your common ap activities that suggest arts is important to you, and did not submit these arts supplements initially ,that’s why they could be asking now to see it, not just for scholarship info but also for RD.
@momof2eagles I don’t think it’s necessarily good/bad moreso just dependent on the amount of interest you’ve shown in a particular form of art. Part of my personal essay talks about my love for film and photography and many of my ECs are art related; I’m pretty sure that was the reason I was asked to submit an art supplement. BTW, good luck to your son, from a fellow NDLS arts kid!
@blourring I agree . Good luck to you too!
