Hey, does anyone know what the creative writing program at Emory is like in comparison to say University of Iowa, Cornell, or Kenyon. I'm looking for information about the undergrad program, by the way. Also, anyone have any idea how truly "South" this school is, i.e. how prevalent southern Greek Life is? I know it's pretty huge at Vandy and I was just curious about Emory.

Dude, we’re not that southern at all. You’re screwed if you want that. We have more of the mid-Atlantic (NYC/Philly/Boston, etc) and international vibe going on. As far as I know both the English and Creative Writing programs are pretty solid. I don’t know how to compare. I haven’t been to those places and I don’t know the cirriculum and styles of pedagogy used.

Mmkay, well luckily I wasn’t looking for that Southern atmosphere (not a big fan of that). I’m glad to hear it’s more like the mid-Atlantic. Whats the social scene like?

USA Today recently ranked Emory as the #1 school for writers. The English/CW faculty and program, at least at the undergraduate level, are really some of the best you’ll find in the country (which is unsurprising considering that English and writing-related majors tend to be pretty bread-and-butter). We also house the archives of Seamus Heaney, Ted Hughes, and Salman Rushdie, the last of those being faculty.

At the graduate level, Iowa easily tops your list. But on the undergraduate level, I would argue that Emory is better than or, at the very least, on par with the universities you listed.

Thanks so much herpderp2! I had understood that iowa had a great graduate program but I kind of wanted to go somewhere else for undergrad and it sounds like emory is definitely worth applying to! anything about social life?
