If I apply to Emory University and the emory scholars program, and I select “will not be applying for need-based aid” which will increase admission chances will it also mean I won’t be considered properly for the merit scholarships.
Merit is not need based. So it shouldn’t matter.
It won’t increase your admission chances if you don’t apply for aid.
@TheQing : They may be using that for data collection purposes (like finding out how many students being considered for scholars are more in the middle/working class range versus others).
@TheQing Emory is need blind. Not applying for FA will not increase your chances of getting in.
Oh, @TheQing is international applicant and that might make a difference. For US applicants, all replies here are good, but it’s possible aid is not so easy for international applicants. @bernie12 , do you know if that is the case?
I believe they are need aware for that group in terms of the need-based aid pool. I think one would be better off aiming for a merit scholarship: https://apply.emory.edu/financial-aid/international.html . Maybe for very qualified candidates, they are likely to at least consider a liberal arts scholarship or something partial to avoid pulling from the need aid pool. Don’t know.
