So I'm just saying that while I'm glad Emory's numbers are on the NYTimes Choice Blog, and I'm sure there was an increase in apps, I just don't know if that's the correct number.

I’m guessing that’s first round from what the spreadsheet displayed. Most of the other schools being bragged about have already done both rounds. With that said, Emory won’t experience that much more of an increase here I’d imagine. Not many people choose Emory as a first choice, so it’s best to just see what happens with the regular decision pool. People are so shallow, that it’s possible that we could suffer merely for our drop in rank, even though we are still in the top 20.

Random:Slightly concerned about one post on that site that mentions Princeton’s admits: The fact that they implied that “37% minority” are among the students that indicate an admissions scheme that discards academic strength displays ignorance as most of that 37% will be Asian/Indian/Middle Eastern. Obviously that poster did not know that these count as minorities (they are not URMs on college campuses, but are nonetheless minorities). They also assume that none of the legacy students met admission criteria. If they followed in their parents’ footsteps, they may have very well been qualified. However, some of them will be sketch. I suppose my concerns would be with the international students (many whom are very good, but may not be good at Engish and thus struggle at a school where they must take humanities/social science courses) and athletes. If Emory admits about 20% internationals again this year, we’ll know that Emory is being about the money. If that lower-quartile SAT increases and they can pull it off, then I’ll question their judgment less, but until then…

UVAorBust: Clearly this doesn’t matter to you in the slightest bit (as it seems you have no interest in Emory at all), so it shouldn’t have even been worth a comment.

Bernie in what way do I have no interest in Emory one bit? I’m not quite sure why you made that comment at all. I’m applying regluar decision and TJC is one of my best friends in real life. Honestly, I have no idea why you randomly make the comment about the ED rate not “mattering to me in the slightest bit”. You don’t know me.

Actually he made a exact statement. I’ll clarify “this DOESN’T matter to you”. I’m not quite sure whether he knows either me or my family, but how does he know it doesn’t matter to me?

Also, TJC, you’ve got 2 days in the hotseat. OD.

I was indeed deceived by your username. Your username implies that you want to go to UVA. Perhaps something changed. My bad. However, I will say that in a sense you should look at it with excitement. Your chances of admission haven’t gone down because there was hardly no increase. When there is a large increase in applicants, normally institutions believe that the can admit less, and follow suit.
