Hey guys! I'm a transfer, and I got accepted to both Emory and Boston University, but I cannot decide where I want to go, and the deadline is veryyy soon. I need your help :) I'm majoring in psychology, I'm going to be a sophomore. Which school has the best undergrad psych program? Also, I think I wanna go into research after grad school, so where should I go if I want to get the best chances to get into a top grad school after college? I went to Boston to visit and loved it, so right now I'm more inclined to go to BU, but Emory is really well ranked so I'm not so sure about my choice. Thank you guys, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t know too much about psychology, but I do know that Emory is a different class of university than BU. Emory is in the top 25 or 30 in the US, while BU is probably only in the top 70. Now, I’m not a huge proponent of rankings when it comes to nit picking (going to school ranked 3 vs. 10-- who cares!), but in general, Emory is more prestigious. Perhaps I’m shallow, but I’d choose Emory. Congrats on your acceptances! I’m sure someone on here is more knowledgable than I am :)!

Thanks for your advice! Actually, Emory is ranked 20 and BU 41 so the difference isn’t that huge but I definitely get you. I cannot find any ranking for psych specifically though.

@mmh224 woah, I totally thought BU was sixty something. I was wrong! Still, Emory is much more prestigious. HOWEVER, it would be shallow to simply go to the more prestigious school. If it were me, I’d be looking at quality of life. maybe check out college prowler?

I know, I used to think that too, but BU is actually good. College what? i’m sorry I’m not American, I guess I don’t know that

For grad programs BU is ranked 46 and Emory is ranked 38 so not a huge difference in the quality of their graduate program. Both programs are more highly ranked for Clinical Psych if you are interested in pursuing that in the future (26 for BU) and (18 for Emory). There doesn’t seem to be a huge difference in the programs but Emory is the more highly regarded college. Is the money the same? If so, fit might be more important to you.

Boston is a better college town than Atlanta and you’ll get few arguments on that, though there’s always someone. Better winters in Atlanta, better summers in Boston. BU might be better known internationally, since it has more international students.

This one of those cases where fit is more important than rank since they’re actually pretty close - but a visit in time to affect the decision is probably out of the question.

BU has a better rep abroad than Emory. Emory is very well respected in its region while BU has to compete with the best in its zone. For pysch i doubt there is a tangible difference.
