I've been accepted to Emory and to Oxford of Emory. I haven't received my Wake Decision yet but I'm pretty confident about it. My main concern about Emory is the lack of school spirit. I've been really involved in high school with sports and activities and I think I'll miss going to football games and all that kind of stuff, especially listening to my friends at UF and FSU talk about how much fun they have at school. My reservation about Wake is its purpoted lack of diversity, racially, geographically, and economically. I'm planning on being Pre-med, So I know that academics are going to be the most important. Is there really a big difference between academics at Emory and Wake? I have not visited Wake yet, but I know its a beautiful campus. I've been to Emory but it was during fall break so it was kind of slow.

liv3yourlif3, I am in the exact same situation as you! I got into Emory on Saturday and I’m fairly confident about a Wake acceptance (fingers crossed!). I’m also intend to pursue medicine in college. I actually emailed an Emory student about the school spirit there because that’s a big deal for me too, and he/she informed me that Emory has a different kind of school spirit. It seemed to me from all of the examples that this student gave me that there are a lot of non-athletic social events and get togethers that occur at Emory (food, music, the arts, campus organizations, etc.). Plus, a very large percent of the students at Emory participate in club and intermural sports (you mentioned you play sports in high school).

So where do you think you’ll end up?

Haha… well, Emory is the first school I’ve heard back from from my list of 7 (Emory, Wake, Dartmouth, UVA, Brown, URich, and Duke), so I have nooo idea. But I love both Wake and Emory! They are very similair in that they both have great resources for people interested in Pre-med/med (and obviously they both have med schools). They’re both southern schools with great academic reputations and the social scenes are similair. A lot of people say that both schools are full of rich, snotty kids, but I have friends at Wake who would argue against that and love the laid back, relaxed nature of their classmates. I think the biggest difference is location and opprotunity. Emory is located in a huge metropolitian city with plenty of hosipitals and fortune 1000 companies for internships, while Wake is in a much smaller locale. That being said, you might prefer more of a “college town” feel. At this point, I’m really unsure…

I understand what you’re coming from liv3. I live in S. Florida and often am concerned that I will end up at a university, however good academically, with no school spirit to speak of. That’s why I applied to ND and BC…haha.

emory and wake social life are pretty different. a lot of emory social life is going to clubs and bars and the sort while wake isnt as much.

wake is much more “southern” and “rural” while emory is definitely northeast/jewish
and wake has MUCH more school spirit. come on…ACC sports.

And that’s not to say emory is bad b/c it certainly has advantages too…

I’m in the same position as well… It’s between wake and oxford of Emory for me. Do u guys know what oxford is like?

Oxford is very small and relatively remote. It;s probably 30 miles or so from Atlanta, and not even close to the commercial district of Covington.
