Does anyone know anything about the Energy Engineering major at Penn State? Is it a good program? I can't seem to find much info about it online (other than the Penn State site of course). I am a returning adult student and was planning on majoring in Physics/Nanotechnology until I heard about this.

The program looks okay, but you would have to explain to everyone (i.e. employers) exactly what it is. This is quite different from physics/nanotechnology. What do you really want to do?

Penn State has a phenomenal geology program so I’d imagine the energy engineering program (which is probably a combination of petrochemical and geological engineering) is also fantastic. I wouldn’t be concerned about academic quality.

I don’t know that you would need to explain the program to employers. Companies looking to hire these sorts of grads make it their business to see what schools are doing. And the College’s Career Services also helps educate employers about their offerings.

You probably can’t find a lot about the program because it it still pretty new. It is ABET accredited. It also covers wind and solar energy and things like environmental compliance.
