Hello, I am a freshman currently taking ENES102H. I wanted to know how difficult the class would be considering my lack in physics background. I took physics my junior year of high school, and due to scheduling issues I did not take AP Physics my senior year. Today in the class (first day of class) I did not understand some of the things the professor talked about and that's when I realized that I don't remember anything from physics at all. Everyone around seemed to know something at least. I really like my major (Mechanical Engineering) and physics is interesting to me, I just dont remember the basics. Will I have to basically teach myself basic physics or will the class go over some of the skills I lack?

Statics can be a stand alone class. I also took it before I took Physics I and did fine, however, I did tons and tons of practice problems in the hibbeler book (I’m assuming they’re still using that one). Dr. Pertmer knows his stuff and he should go over the math and the setup to solve all the problem types, but you’ll obviously have to read the book and work on problems to internalize it.

Also, all the ENES classes have lots of support through office hours/tutoring, so be sure to seek them out if you need it.

On the plus side, when you do get to Physics I, the statics problems will be a joke, and it will even make the dynamics problems easier to set up.
