Engineering and Business

What it be practical, and possible, to double major in a field of engineering, and business?

It matters what school you're going to. Each school's curriculum is different so it's hard to say.

I'd say it'd be a waste of time to major in both engineering and business. If you want to be a manager in an engineering firm, a business degree isn't very useful. Generally these companies look for high GPAs coming out of undergrad (to fill their leadership positions) so I'd say stick with engineering and maximize your GPA.

You can always go back to get an MBA (even if you dont have an undergrad degree in business)

Many schools do combine those two interests. Northwestern and UPenn are the two schools that I know for sure that does this. This program at UPenn however is the toughest the campus offers. Also many more universities offer a custom major which you pretty much do whatever you want. To answer your question it is definitely possible.

However, it is only practical in a few cases. Unless you have a lot of endurance and have an equal high interest in both fields, I would agree with fool and would not recommend it. I would suggest a major in engineering and a minor or concentration in business.

I think that engi and business are a good combo (one of the ones I considered) but I realized that I would probably want to get an MBA anyway - which you can of course do without having studied business during undergrad.

Don't forget the Engineering Management major is popular in graduate engineering circles. You can get that baby in like 30 credits and it's usually heavy with project management.

Don't get me wrong, if you can do the MBA...do it. I would have but, I would have been too far behind in getting classes waived for an all-out MBA.
