Engineering at a LAC?

My D, a HS soph, expects to go into engineering. I had been assuming based on her older brother's search experience that we would be looking primarily at research universities. She is now receiving a lot of mail from schools I never thought about as having engineering programs, such as Swarthmore and Smith. Does anyone have thoughts about LACs for engineering? I have some concerns that the research opportunities won't be as plentiful.

this question's been asked so many times already.
