Engineering Chances?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if I have any shot at getting into UC Berkeley?

I plan on doing civil engineering. I read that they get tons and tons of applicants for EE and other fields but not too many for Civ (in comparison), so I was hoping that this helps me out (civil is what I want to do regardless of that).

I go to a very competitive private high school in New Jersey. Widowed parent, income around 40k ish, first generation college student.

I guess I'll just list some stuff and you can let me know if you need anything else to tell me my chances.

white male (double damn)

SAT I: 2020 690 CR, 630 Math, 700 Writing
SAT II: Haven't taken any yet but plan on doing Both math 1 (is this acceptable), chemistry, and either lit or us history (does it matter)

GPA: 3.8 something UW I did incredibly poor freshmen year and had to work instensely hard to get my grades up. I don't know if they'll see that but the self-improvement was immense

Rank: top 10

Junior year coursework: Honors English, Honors Chem, Honors Alg2/Trig, Ap US History, Honors Spanish 3, Religion (required)

four quarter grades and then year grade

Honors English- 97 97 99 98 98
Alg2 Trig Honors 95 94 96 95 95
AP USH- 99 99 99 99 99
Chemistry Honors 99 99 98 99 98
Spanish 3 Honors 96 97 97 96 95
Religion- 99 99 99 99 99

Senior year: AP Eng, Honors Physics, Ap Art History, Ap US History, Honors Precalc

My school only offers ap classes in English, Art History, US History, and Calc BC, so I'm taking all I am qualified for. I tried starting a US Gov AP and Euro Hist AP but the head of the department turned me down.

Taken 2 courses at a local community college, intro to philosophy (freshmen year- A-), sociology (sophomore year A), looking into another one now.

Extracurriculars:

BTW I might be able to take ap chemistry next year....there should be enough kids if I want to do it...only thing...my schedule will be absolute hell:

honors physics
ap chemistry
honors precalc
ap english 4
ap art history
ap us history
religion (required)

Think I should try to take ap chem? Would it help my chances at all??

Take AP chem if you can. 4 AP classes isn't bad at all.

· New Jersey Regional Science Fair Rutgers Student Award, 2005 - I thought everybody at NJRSF got one, as well as a stupid maroon t-shirt. Try raising your SAT scores a bit.

What high school do you go to?

I was worried about the classes because each of those classes will be difficult, not like some other schools whose ap classes are about as easy as addition. (Dont' worry I'm not afraid of work otherwise I wouldn't be on CC)

Well the year I was there we got blue shirts. And no, the Rutgers Student Award isn't given to everyone, only one person. If I remember correctly the description of the award is something along the lines of: Rutgers grad students go around just like the other judges and ask questinos about people's projects and select one (key thing here...only one) person to receive the award based on their project.

Oh and btw I go to Immaculata, what about you?

And what does everyone think of my overall chances for civE?

Immaculata? Huge school isn't it? It's got a good marching band. I went to school in a tiny magnet school in Morris County.

My mistake on the award. I thought you meant the certificate. I know what you're talking about though. God I hated that place. I guess that might have a little bearing...no harm in putting it on your application.

I'd say is a medium size school...there are alot of huge publics nearby so I might have a different sense for size. But for a private school it would probably be bigger than most. And yea our band is consistently winning stuff.

Bumping. My UC gpa is I calculated it correctl is somewhere around a 4.4 maybe did it wrong. What are my chances overall?

Take AP Chem so you can get out of chem 1a your freshman year. You won't regret the decision.

Chances are pretty good. Don't have much else to say.

I think you have a solid chance if you keep up the good work. Just make sure you apply to a back up college, in case something weird happens.

Good Luck.

!!
I'm also applying to CivEngineering for this school

Can someone compare my stats for this major as well since it's already up?

SAT: 1990
ACT: 29
Rank: top 9%
From Illinois
NOT White (hah)

I'll spare you the rest..
