I wish to learn more about the process by which students who want to be engineers choose their majors.
a) are there weed out classes?
b) GPA requirements?
c) Is there an inclusive policy or a weed out policy?
We’ve started asking questions of some state flagship schools and are worried about access due to restrictions on spots for sophomores. Will this also be a problem at CWRU?
Thanks for any insight. Trying to choose among Case and some big ten schools.
Case Western has a “Single Door Admissions” Policy.
“And with our single-door admission policy, once you’re admitted, you can explore the university’s entire catalog of academic offerings across the schools of engineering, nursing and management as well as the College of Arts and Sciences.”
So while they do look for diversity in major when admitted, when you are admitted there are no restrictions on major or classes. So you don’t have to “apply” to be an engineering major as a sophomore. And you can take business classes and are not restricted because you are not in the business school.
SO
a) only the usual pre-engineering classes, (Calc 1-4), Chem, Physics etc.
b) nope…only the usual to keep academic standing
c) not sure what you are asking…but as they are not a comprehensive public university, they are admitting students who should succeed and are not looking to weed out.
It will not be a problem to be an engineer at Case. Just take the engineering Freshman courses and when it is time to declare a major, do so.
Thank you for the complete answer. I do have to ask though, what is your position such that you can say “usual academic standing” - I can’t find this info on line.
