Engineering Consultant?

What exactly is it?

I am a senior in a high school, and as my community study (last 3 weeks), I am going to work at an engineering consultant company. When I interviewed, they told me that they are like a "marketing" company that bridges engineering companies in South Korea and consumer companies in US.

Can you please tell me more about engineering consultant? Names of any well known companies?? Starting salaries?? Degrees needed?? Etc. Any thing you know about it.

Thank you!

bump................................

Bump---anyone?.................

i think an engineering consultant is like a free-lancing (or contract using) person/firm that does narrow-scope work for another company.
the client company may ask the person/firm to design a specific part for something or do analysis on a specific aspect of a product.

the client pays the consultant for their professional input/opinions on the client's product.

yes what rocketDA said is correct, you get paid for your input

is the pay similar to that of someone working in a business consulting firm-for two workers at the same level in a business and engr. consulting firm, respectively? Are work hours similar? Can you name some top engr. consulting companies(chemical engr./pharmaceuticals)?
