Anyone with a daughter studying engineering or CS at U of Rochester?
Could you please share her experience and perspective on the program?

Thank you!
My daughter is a rising junior CS major and she’s very happy at the U of R. The program is a nice balance between the very engineering oriented or very liberal arts programs that she was looking at with other schools. In other words, she can get a BS without having to endure multiple semesters of Physics :). The program has plenty of course choices, with no difficulties in getting enrolled as with other schools, and the classes are appropriately challenging. Nice campus and a good size - big enough, but not too big. As with any school, it pays to visit to see if it feels right. My daughter had that “I belong here” vibe during our visit.
@nmcorm Thank you!
My daughter read in the website that the female to male ratio is 30/70 for engineering. I assume this is pretty typical (or even better) compared to other schools. Also 30% internationals. The university as a whole looks like a wonderful place but she is wondering how it will be if she has to spend most of her time in the engineering/CS department and how the sense of community is within the department.
My daughter says that her CS classes are closer to 50/50 - perhaps the other engineering programs have lower? The campus is relatively compact and, for the lower level CS classes at least, they meet all over the campus. Where and how your daughter spends her time is a function of what activities and classes she chooses. In her first two years, I wouldn’t say that my daughter is tight with the CS “community” per se. That might change as she has declared her major and moves in to the smaller upper level classes.
