I know that some graduates with degrees in engineering decide to pursue this field. I also know that only the top students at the top universities are offered this chance. What top engineering universities would give one the best chance of being recruited by a firm/bank? Thanks.

Those days might be over, honestly.

why? ten characters

I’m not sure about the sincerity of this post due to recent discussions on the board BUT if you are genuinely interested:

If you want to end up in New York, you should strive to attend the elite schools: The Ivies + MIT/Stanford. Regional offices with recruit from other top universities near by, such as Emory/GAtech for Atlanta, Texas/Rice for Houston/Dallas and so forth.

Engineering is not the best major for entry into banking–you want a high GPA and you’d be much better off majoring in finance/economics or even math.

Network, network network with other Wall Street personnel

Gain as much financial and leadership experience as you can, through clubs and other ECs.

You’ll want to aim for an IBD internship during your Junior year–once again if you don’t attend a target school (from #1) your chances are slim.

GOOD LUCK, due to recent meltdown it’ll be VERY hard to get an IBD position.
