Hi all, this is my first post on CC after lurking for some time. I've got a couple questions I couldn't find answers to.

It is my plan to get a MS in electrical and computer engineering after I finish my undergrad (June 2012). I really have little to no interest in the research aspect of my field so I definitely will not be doing a PhD. However, in researching various MS ECE programs across the country I have found that many will take applicants that have applied for the PhD program and instead give them admission to the MS program at what seems like a much higher percentage than the normal MS acceptance rate. I have even had an advisor tell me that it would be in my best interest to apply for the PhD programs at a couple of schools because I'll stand a better chance of getting in to the MS program that way than if I simply apply for the terminal MS program. Is this true?

I should note that I am looking generally at top 10-15 ECE schools that offer terminal MS programs.

FWIW I currently have one term left in the ECE program at a mediocre state school with a 3.96 GPA and 1+ years of internship experience at a couple of good companies in my field. However, I am worried that I may be aiming a little too high when it comes to my choices given what I have seen posted around CC and elsewhere. I've seen a lot of posts about qualities schools look for in PhD applicants, but can anyone speak specifically to what a school likes to see in a terminal MS candidate and what the expected acceptance rates are?

Thanks in advance.
