Hey there. I’m interested in Computer Science and have been taking mostly engineering classes in High School and planning to do so in the next 2 years of High School. However I also have a strong interest in politics, language, philosophy & art (humanities), so I’m wondering if there is a specific field that utilizes both of these topics in one, or if there’s a major/minor combo that would fit these interests?
There’s a field within CS called Natural Language Processing (NLP) that combines computer science (AI) with linguistics. There’re also interdisciplinary majors often called CS+X that applies computer science to another field X. That X could be a branch of humanities or social sciences.
One search term you may want to keep in mind is “digital humanities” Digital humanities - Wikipedia
This is more commonly a realm of research rather than an academic major (example: MIT SHASS: News - 2019 - MIT Programs in Digital Humanities launched with 1.3M grant ), but actual major programs are appearing here and there. (Example: Digital Humanities - Syracuse.edu ) It’s becoming increasingly common as a minor (available at Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, U of Oregon, UNL, and various others).
