Engineering schedule

Hey!

I'm planning on majoring in Engineering (not sure which one yet), but I also want to learn a new language. I got a 4 on the AP Spanish Lang exam, so I technically already fulfilled the language requirement, but I am interested in learning Japanese. I want to take 4 years of Japanese.

I've been sifting through the Stanford website, and there seems to be a lot of requirements. There's PWR, IHUM, DB, EC, etc... I also know that engineers have several requirements too.

So...I was wondering if it was possible to actually take Japanese (and become proficient), the general requirements (IHUM, etc), and my engineering classes.

If it is possible, can someone post some sort of freshman schedule with engineering and a foreign language? AND, can someone post information on the General Education Requirements (especially 'Disciplinary Breadth' and 'Education for Citizenship')?

Thanks!

bump.
help.
please.

You should be able to fit in 4 years of a foreign language IF you have AP Calculus and/or Physics C credit. The reason is that all freshmen have to take 3 IHUM and at least one PWR. In addition, engineering freshmen have to take Calculus and Physics, leaving little room for electives unless you have AP credit. In addition, taking 4 years of foreign languages leaves almost no room for any courses other than Engineering and GER. In any case, it shouldn't be a problem to fit at least 3 years of foreign language into your schedule. Keep in mind that the maximum courseload is 20 units per quarter, and exceptions are only granted to graduating seniors.

Popular language classes such as Spanish are offered every quarter, but most languages are only offered starting in Autumn, so if you skip one quarter, you'd have to wait an entire year to pick it up again.

Your response and those links were extremely helpful! Thanks again!
