I'd like to involve myself in aspects of engineering and science by seeing what other people are doing and working on, learning about whats currently going on in the fields, maybe networking a bit, etc. I figure a good way of doing this would be by attending conventions and seminars in some of the surrounding areas. Does anyone know of a good way of finding this information? I already checked google, didn't help much. I also checked at my school, nothing coming up anytime soon. Thanks!

Most engineering fields have professional societies (IEEE for Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering, ACM for Computer Science, IIE for Industrial Engineering, plenty of others out there) that often hold conferences, post new research papers, hold online seminars, possibly offer certifications for some things. Check out the one for your major.

Ahhhh, awesome idea, thanks!

A lot of the organizations offer student memberships at a greatly reduced cost, too.
