Engineering Science requirement-electives

I'm a transferring mech engineering major. I didn't fulfill this requirement when i was in my comm. college before i transferred.
The choices are: Chem 2, Modern Physics, Astronomy/ Astrophysics 1, or Integrated Principles of Biology 1. I don't really want to take Chem 2 (i'm not the best in chem) and astrophysics sounds pretty intense.

Which is easier: Modern physics or the Integrated Principles of Biology? And have you taken that course at UF?

I took Modern Physics with Saab. It’s a good course. We went over black body radiation, quantization, michelson-morely experiment, special relativity, general relativity, uncertainty principle, quantum mechanics, then some condensed matter and statistical mechanics stuff. Of course, we barely grazed the surface of each of the subjects due to time. This was the hardest part of the class because you didn’t have time to intuitively learn something. I haven’t taken principles of bio, but if you can get Saab for Modern Physics, its a good’un.

how much time did you have to put into the class? overall, did you think it was easy?

I put some time into the class because most of the subjects were interesting. I’d say only about a quarter to half that of chem II though. Overall it was easy. Most people did their homework right before it was due (working on it 5 minutes before it was collected).

have you heard of professor Meisel? i think he will be the only one teaching modern phys. this fall

Modern Physics has the potential to be an excruciatingly difficult class. All bets are off if Saab isn’t the professor.
I have heard of Meisel. I’ve been told that hes a good teacher and expects a lot from his students. However, the course would probably be more difficult under Meisel than Saab.
