Engineering with a minor in a language?

So, I'll be starting at Rutgers SOE in NB this coming fall, and I really want to minor is a language, probably French. I read that for you to major in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, you'll have to go through 5 years worth of courses, and I was wondering, if I also want to minor in a language, say, French, would it continue to be 5 years, or would another year be added into that? I would be starting completely from scratch with this language, but I have a major advantage in that I speak a romance language already, Portuguese, and so I can understand a lot of French already. Is it possible, or am I going crazy and overloading myself with work?
Thanks in advanced. :)

My son double majored in Spanish and Biology and did fine. Why don’t you see what the requirements are for the French minor and Engineering major and see if that is something you can handle. Is it doable ? yes. Is it going be hard?? Maybe. Other factors go into deciding and one of them is how committed are you?? How hard do you want to work?? I always advise people to minor in something instead of just taking random classes. Whatever you decide, make sure you keep talking to your college adviser. They know best!! Good luck
