Enginering laptop requirements

Anyone knows anything about laptop requirements for engineering students? Should I buy my laptop on Wal-mart? Btw, I am an international student.

The laptop requirements are here:

For questions about specifically purchasing a laptop, such as where you should buy one and how powerful it needs to be, I’d recommend going to the College Computers board. There’s a lot of great information there that will probably answer most of your questions.

[College Computers - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-computers/)

Is there any place on campus that sells computers/software to Vandy students or are we pretty much on our own with this?

The Bookstore sells hardware and software. However, I would not really encourage buying from them as it is way overpriced. There’s an Office Depot across from Towers too.

Is it possible to get my laptop fixed easily if I dont buy a Dell one from Vandy? Btw, what do you guys think about a Mac for engineering ?

Not sure about getting a non Dell fixed as I had one through the school. I would think it would be like getting one fixed if you weren’t at Vanderbilt.

Personally, I wouldn’t want a Mac for engineering but I know some people that had them.

Macs can be inconvenient for engineers. Not that they aren’t powerful, but you just don’t want to have to struggle with compatability issues. Or, run Windows on the MacOS. Probably a pretty viable solution if you’re an Apple chromie, but even then, you can still run into issues with formatting and performance.
