Engl 104 - Community college? Summer school?

How do you find the clustered classes?

When you’re looking up the symbols in howdy instead of going to PHYS or MATH go to FCEN which is Foundation Clusters in Engineering or something like that I think. All of those sections have Engr 111, Math 151, and Phys 218. The benefits are the schedule already works and the benefit or the negative depending on how you view it is you are with the same people for all of those 3 classes.

Sounds perfect…we’ll check for that tonight. Thanks so much for the help!

No problem, like xcellerator said just make sure you have the 5 digit CRN number ready during registration if your advisor lets you register for yourself. I was done registering in 30 seconds and got everything I wanted.

So today they told us the problem. The Physics dept opened only 950 slots when last year’s fall freshmen used 1600. No one knows WHY and the head of Physics is on some exotic vacation and can’t be reached. No one else has the authority to add sections, but everyone who spoke is sure it will happen (there’s was a lot of Physics-dept-bashing).

The ChemEngr advisor (Katherine-something) was amazing though. We just loved her instantly. She told the kids to “try” for Phys 218, but if there weren’t any to take Phys 201 temporarily and she will contact them personally as soon as slots are added. She said she can make the changes before Add/Drop week and she will have everything worked out in the next few weeks.

We all left the room happy, but then I went to the parent dinner. The other engineering advisors were not nearly so encouraging. My friend said there was a lot of yelling in the Mech Engr session from unhappy parents. Those advisors just said “uhhh…do the best you can…maybe go to summer school…”. My son is writing down schedules and CRN #s right now and hopefully he will get one of the few slots. If not, I’m sure she will help him get it eventually.

The ChemEngr advisor also told the parents to find somewhere ELSE to be at 1pm tomorrow, because she & her 4-5 student helpers were gonna get the kids registered and the parents being around would just slow things down. Clearly they kids will be in good hands!!!

Yeah, registration should go well for you guys. You sound prepared with several options. My son was registered in about 30 seconds. Have your son enter those classes with the fewest seats remaining first to ensure a spot. Good luck!

Thank God it’s finally OVER! They did open a couple of Physics sections. DS got everything except a ChemLab. The advisor said she could handle that for him very soon. She really was awesome. I hope she sticks around a long time.

Yeah, I saw like maybe 25ish spots open for PHYS 218 yesterday. They’ll definitely open up some more when the PHYS dept. gets back. And there are a lot of Chem labs open (Chem 111) as of right now, I don’t see what the problem is…That’s good with your advisor. The advisors that I had were bad and not helpful as well as not knowing what they were doing. This is why I never go to see an advisor…ever. I have to do everything myself.

Just wanted to report back and thank momto2ags for recommending doing the Engl104 at a our local community college. My son finishes his minimester Tuesday. It was super-easy. The instructor graded the papers, but then returned them for a revision and bumped up the grades. Done in 10 days!

We’re hoping the tech writing class is offered in May. Thanks again for all the help.

My local community college doesn’t offer minimesters so I took the distance one from Blinn so I could still be home for Christmas. History is so boring, but I guess it’s nice to get it done in 2 weeks instead of dealing with it for a whole semester.
