English B.A. wanting to pursue urban and regional planning in graduate school

Hey guys!

First time poster. I’m graduating in the spring time and seriously it feels like I didn’t realize what I wanted to do with my life until now. My major is in English with a minor in Linguistics yet it hit me just last semester that what I’ve really wanted to do- just never realized it- was work in city planning. Now I’m freaking out trying to find ways of working in that field, but most places I look at seem to lead me towards a dead end, as if I’m going to have to do all of my undergraduate again or something. Does anyone have experience with making drastic shifts in their areas of study? Or at least advice on what I could do post graduate to strengthen my chances come application time for graduate school?

Some grad programs will have prereqs or strongly recommended prior coursework. Some might require economics, for example, or stats. Does your current school offer opportunities for community engaged learning? Any clubs or volunteer work with having to do with community issues? These are the kinds of activities you could be looking to do this semester.

I believe so. I’m just slightly worried it’s too little, too late, ya know?
