How are the English or writing programs at American? If they’re not good, what would you say is the best school for English-related things in D.C.?

My son placed out of the writing/literature requirements with his AP credits, but he has taken two literature electives with heavy writing requirements that he enjoyed very much.

Thanks, that’s reassuring
I’m not sure what I’m going to major in just yet but English and creative writing have always been my passion, and while I should really probably settle on something more practical, I want to go to a college where that’s focused on at least somewhat. In my school district, English is basically a joke and it’s really frustrating, and I don’t want a repeat of that in college. However, I’d also really love to go to school in Washington D.C. Academics comes before location to me but if I could have a good school for English/writing that’s also in my favorite city, that would be awesome.

if you are interested in journalism or public relations, AU could be a good choice for you.

If you give me your email I can hook you up with a friend who majors in creative writing.

I’m taking a class with him called African Writer and he seems to really love all the literature/creative writing courses. And from the 3 lit courses I’ve taken (not a lit major), the program isn’t a joke here and won’t be a repeat of high school for you.
