English -- how good?

My parents have always told me that NYU has the best English department in the northeast. I've also been accepted to Colgate and BU. When compared to those schools, is their statement true? Is it worth the money like I've read certain programs in Tisch and Stern are?

NYU is probably considered more reputable than BU in the public eye but Colgate is definitely a contender. They are both polar opposites as far as schools go.

How would you say NYU's English department is when compared to the other two's?

And thanks for the reply :)

bumping...

Sorry, i do not really know much about each school's specific department. I know that small liberal arts colleges like Colgate tend to attract good English profs and tend to have great curriculums. However, that may not necessarily mean that it is better than NYU's because they are both great schools with intellectual student bodies. Different schools tend to take different approaches toward subjects, so they could both be very different programs while one does not necessarily stand out as "better." It just depends on what suits you the best. I would say take a look at the courses that each school offers and see which ones are more attune to your interests and the way you learn. Also, if you are interested in taking more than just English courses, see which of the schools offers better options as far as everything else you want to do. Because it is so large, NYU has tons of different course offerings, but my cousin goes to Colgate and loves it there too. I don't know that much about BU's dept. at all but I would say that either NYU or Colgate are better bets, but that's just me. Hopefully some of that helped make the decision easier!
