Does anyone know anything about it? I like english but i don't want to spend 4 years analyzing really old plays and literature only, and want to know what is included in the major.

I think it depends somewhat on the school. What DO you want out of your major? Thinking about that may help you a lot.

There are a lot of majors that require strong reading and writing skills. You don't necessarily have to major in English. Look at other majors that you may have a strong interest and register for them. You may stumble upon your dream major.

wow, i thought i liked english too. but i find i'm struggling to finish the degree. i've been in the major for two years, and i only took about 4 classes, this quarter being my 5th. i never really wanted to go to class. kind of a pain. anyway, if you're quick at it, you can finish the requirements in a year and half to two years. there aren't as much requirements as engineering majors. basically, you take 3 pre-1900 lit classes, 1 compo (required of everybody), 1 critical analysis, 1 theory, 1 history and lit, and a pre-req of a writing class and an analysis class. take a few classes and see if it's for you. if it's not, i warn you, switch to something else. there are far more interesting things that can help you develop critical thinking and reading skills.

yea that doesn't sound too fun, i think i'll switch out of it after the first quarter.
