<p>How strong is Rice's english dept? How does it compare to Berkeley's undergrad english program? Thanks : ]</p>
<p>My daughter is in Rice majoring in English. I had read someplace that Rice was ranked No. 11 in English. I do'nt know Berkeley's English rank but no doubt it'll be up there. So yr choice should depend on what other courses yr going to take, cost, distance from home (if that's an issue), etc.</p>
<p>I would not be surprised if Berkeley is clearly up there, but even so Rice definitely has the advantage of a more diverse student body. Berkeley is like 40% Asian.</p>
<p>I believe Berkeley's English department was ranked first place in the most recent US News and World Reports publication. I'd pick UC Berkeley over Rice University.</p>
