Anyone know anything about the Undergrad English Program?? Strengths, Weaknesses? I'm trying to decide which Ivy is the best for this.

they're all pretty good. what kind of top school has a bad english program? Figure out which schools you like best, first. I mean, it's unlikely, although possible, that you'd find the atmosphere at dartmouth AND yale appealing.

ya i guess your right. well, i guess basically what i want is a school (preferably Ivy) with a great English/Creative Writing Program, kinda artsy atmosphere, and um...if possible, alot of girls. any ideas???

Sparty's right though... find the overall match first, then get down to the department level... having said that... you'll not find a better home for creative writing than Cornell... just ask Toni Morrison, Kurt Vonegut, Thomas Pynchon, Matt Ruff, Allison Lurie, Paul Russell, and Jim McConkey, to name a few... and you could ask Archie Ammons, Vladimir Nabokov, and EB White if they were alive.

See page 6 of this newsletter for a nice history of the department:

Wharf

WOW! That's pretty cool. Whats the atmosphere like at Cornell? (if thats not too difficult to answer in a few sentences!)

AND JOHN CLEESE AND JOHN STEWART?

AJ: do you mean the social atmosphere? The campus vibe? or what?

all of the atmospheres???? lol. i dunno. nevermind. hard question.

All ivy's are great for english. If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to study english? Do you want to be a prof. in the future? Or, do you want to be a lawyer?

lol. um, neither. i wanna be a writer. hahaha. i laugh at myself everytime i say that.

being a writer would be really cool. Once you get tired of it, you can later persue law or teaching, business, whatever...

ya, i know. its just like.... writing isnt really a CAREER. its funny that i'm gonna spend sooo much money to go to college and then im not going to be able to get a job and im going to have no money. hahaha. oh well. shoot for the stars.

you can get a great job as a "writing expert" haha. Businesses are dying for smart people who know how to write well, even if the job description doesn't center around writing. So few people can write these days compared to yesteryear. Maybe the W section of the New SAT is a very good thing. ;-)
