Hi
I am incoming freshman to the college of engineering and I was wondering whether I should take ENGR 101 vs 151.
On Koofers, I saw the grade distribution for ENGR 101 was 49% As, 36% Bs, 12% Cs, and 2% Ds. For ENGR 151, it was 72% As, 26% Bs, and like 1% Cs. Is Koofers reliable for this data? If so, is ENGR 151 easier to succeed in?
I also took AP CS in high school and got an A during the semester we studied Java. What do you guys suggest I take?
Thanks

Yeah @nballday what site are u referring to

151 is A LOT harder. ENGR 101 is considered by most to be the easiest introductory programming course at the University (among courses that can be used as a prerequisite for EECS 280).
In terms of raw difficulty from highest to lowest, I have found most people agree it goes like this:
ENGR 151
EECS 183
ENGR 101
Between EECS 183 and ENGR 101, 183 does a better job of preparing you for 280. I have seen engineers go through some hoops to take 183 instead of 101 to better learn CS.
If know a good amount of CS already, 101 will almost certainly bore you, and 183 might bore you.
TAKE 101, think about what type of students will elect a harder course…The VERY passionate and the VERY smart.
It is wayyyyyy harder to get an A in 151 than 101.
IMO you should do just as I did and take 101, dont go to class, and still get an A. If you do not have very strong CS still then you should watch the recorded lectures online.
Even if you are a CS major (doesnt sound like you are) dont take 151 its really hard and not worth it for first semester fresh year
Everyone I know who took 101, even those who had no experience with coding, found 101 to be sometimes stressful and a lot of work, but an easy A or B class. The professors I’ve heard have all kinds of office hours and are really helpful. Of all the courses engineers generally take their freshman year, 100/101 are definitely on the easier end. I’d say do yourself a favor - 151 isn’t worth it. If you put in the time and the effort, you shouldn’t have any issues. The lectures are either posted or livestreamed (this isn’t bible-I didn’t take the class so I don’t know for sure) on Canvas, and you really don’t even need to haul yourself up to North for the class if you don’t really want to.
