Environmental science Vs. Biology

I’m starting FSU in the fall and am wondering if I should declare my major as environmental science vs. biology. My passion is nature and I want to do research for my career but I’m not that’s sure exactly what yet. I was going to do environmental science but people told me biology would be smarter because it is broader and I can specialize in environemntal science in graduate school. What are the pros and cons of doing one over the other?

I am quite familiar with these fields. Often times Biology majors are aimed at pre-med/pre-dental kids and have notorious weeder classes such as organic chemistry. If you don’t plan on going down the med/dental track, it makes sense to avoid as many of the weeder classes as possible.

I don’t see how biology gives you more options, you can get graduate degrees in either field with an undergrad degree in either field.

FSU has a really good department of ecology and conservation. Have you looked into it?

FSU will have good resources and opportunities for field work.
