Hi
I've been checking a lot of threads on this forum and it seems like my dream major(Biology) is a dead end. I don't want to be another statistic when it comes to unemployment.
I've been researching other science related fields and have stumbled across environmental science. I was wondering if anyone here knows the job prospects for someone with BS or MS in environmental science. Also is the pay good. I would also like to know if there are any environmental science related fields that have good job prospects and pay well.
Thanks

Environmental Science, tragically, doesn’t seem too much brighter of a major than Biology. I currently work in a government office, and three out of four of the staff members majored in either Environmental Science or Studies. Why they’re in a government office and not out in the field? No job opportunities.

in your opinion miashaw what kind of science major has good employment opportunities?

Actually the working degree in environmental science is a Masters. You can find jobs, but it also depends on where you live, just like anything else. I for example live in New Jersey, one of the most polluted state’s in the country, so you would find a lot of jobs especially in remediation. Geology currently has good employment opportunities. Exploration, mining, Hydrogeology, Environmental Geology.

FWIW, I am an Environmental Scientist who works for the government, and I spend time in an office and in the field.

Opportunities in virtually any situation depend on the individual. A degree may make the interview possible, but it is up to you to fill in the rest.

I’ve noticed the EPA has a fair number of openings lately.
