Environmental Studies v. Chemistry?

Hey all! I'm a rising sophomore at a LAC and I'm a bit conflicted about what pathway to pursue. I'm definitely going to go for either a major or minor in Math but I'm also really interested in doing environmental research. My impression is that with a Chem major and research/internships that involve Environmental Chemistry, I'll be able to find an Chem grad program with an Environmental emphasis. Is this right? Or should I go the Environmental Studies way (which I think is more politically oriented)? Unfortunately I can only have either a major and a minor or a double major.

Honestly, I'd say go with chemistry. It will be much easier for you to go into a environmental/biogeochem or an environmental-related grad program from a chemistry degree than from an environmental studies degree. You can always take environmental classes as electives. The other way around- majoring in environmental studies and taking chem classes on the side does not work. Environmental studies can often be a dubious major.

Thanks EnviroGuy!

Chemistry! But I'm biased

Is it absolutely impossible to do both chemistry and environmental studies? In a way, they both relate and with experience in both fields, you could have twice the job opportunities.
