Equity Membership

In applying to MT programs -- Is Equity seen as good, bad or indifferent?

Indifferent. And in this economy, it’s probably wise for a high schooler to wait to go equity anyway.

I don’t think it really matters. One of my kids is Equity, the other is not. The non-Equity kid had plenty of success for college auditions, and in regional and community theatre. She probably won’t go Equity until forced to.

Haven’t seen that it makes a difference. I don’t think schools care at all.

I have not come across any school that would make any determination about a candidate based on membership in AEA. If you are a member AEA, IATSE, SAG, AFTRA, AGVA or Musician’s Union or any other union, the union rules are waived in academic situations. So, union membership is a non-issue in an educational setting.
