Could I spend this essay talking about things that I enjoy but are of no significance at all (hanging out, playing, etc…), or is it preferred that I write it about something that is a little bit serious(reading, debate, etc…)?
You’re overthinking this. There is no correct path other than “what do you love to do”. They want to know your personality. For example, if your aunt asked your mother “What does ahmed love to do?” What would she say in such a casual conversation? Use that.

There are also enough yale supps you can balance some casual/recreational “love to do” but also fill in more serious activities ^^ (community impact, educational excitement since you have to do two)
