Now that we are nearing the end of this process for the first time, the paranoid questions are rolling around in my brain:
1. If you are using the gateway portal where writing boxes are supplied to copy and paste essays, do the essays need a title since the boxes are attached to specific questions? if so, is there any way to keep the title from counting against the word count?

For schools that are not on gateway (e.g.: exeter), what is the proper format for essays? Using the question as the title or putting both the question you are answering and a title on the top?

As you can probably tell, the paranoid, crazy-train has officially pulled into its station in my brain! Thanks again for everyone's support!

Come on now, aren’t there enough real things to worry about? As long as someone can tell which question you are answering, I’m sure it doesn’t matter what your format is.

My son didn’t use any titles when he applied last year. It will count against the word maximum. When not clear, indicate which question you are answering-- either through your opening sentence, or a number, or briefly stating the question. But you don’t need a title.

If you hit the ‘print preview’ button you will see the application as they will see it. You do not have to title individual essays.

My child ever so efficient did this.

“3. Start of essay …”

Just put the number and kept writing.

@twinsmama and CroissantMiser, for the Exeter parent statement, are you going to attempt to hand write on the actual form in the space provided, type into the editable PDF, or attach a separate sheet?

For the two strengths and weaknesses questions, I don’t see how anybody can reasonably respond in the space provided. But I am paranoid that might mean I am writing too much!

BL,
I called Admissions last month about that and they said sending it via PDF is fine. We used the PDF from the website, answered the questions, printed it out, signed it, rescanned and then emailed to admissions…sounds lengthy but was actually pretty easy.

I typed into the editable PDF and whittled it down to fit. It did take a fair amount of editing and reediting to convey what I wanted within the allotted space.

Yikes! Those blocks of space are small! I’ve got some editing to do! My responses weren’t all that lengthy, but they won’t fit in those spaces.
