My essay for Dartmouth (the Common App essay) is about 1000 words. Is this too long - I've heard 500 words is likethe unofficial limit? Is Dartmouth going to be annoyed that mine is so long (the problem is I don't feel that I can take any out of it without taking out something important)?

Well I've been told that the limit should be 600 words (max.)

Well if it is not interesting Adcoms wouldnt want to read a very long essay.

just write your essay ... don't write a novel ... it doesn't matter. stop freaking out. 1000 words is fine. 1500 would be pushing it.

Bear in mind that the Common App will automatically cut you off (preview your app; what you see there is what the adcom will see, nothing more and nothing less), so 1000 words might go over the technical limit.
