If you got in, what were your essays?
Do you mean what was the essay prompt?
As in, if you’re willing to share, what essay did you write for prompt 1 that got you into uchicago
I’d like to know as well
If you want to read successful essays, do a Google search. There are also essay writing books available. Other students aren’t likely to send you their essays. It won’t help you and if you used it on your college app it might be considered a violation of their college’s honor code. Honor code violations can get students expelled, so sharing their essays is a really bad idea.
I agree
UC is looking for off the beaten path. By definition, someone eise’s essay shouldn’t be much help to you.
Here is my advice on essays, 1) its original 2) It conveys a point (specific/wide/or personal context) 3) It reads well (it doesn’t just ramble on)
I believe there’s a danger, no doubt encouraged by the sense that they want you to be quirky and original, to get away from the basics of good writing. It probably helps to choose a serious subject, one that actually means something to you, and then open it up a bit in the writing. Avoid cliché and stale language, by all means, but beware of whimsy masquerading as originality. It is usually best to tamp things down just a bit in re-writing. A red pencil never comes amiss. You must make your words, sentences and paragraphs march along in good order and make a point worth making!
do you attend Uchicago? @marlowe1

Probably too long ago to be of any assistance to you, @steadymaintain , but feel free to try me. Tips on writing are tricky, however.
@marlowe1 attended U of C before a lot of parent contributors to this forum were born. And I am saying this with utmost respect.
