<p>The essay portion on the application is optional. Does it negatively affect my chances if I do not submit one?</p>
<p>Not from our family's experience (D is a second year student; S just got accepted several weeks ago for next fall). They concentrate a lot on test scores, gpa, and class rank.</p>

<p>I also have a question about the essay. The list of requirements to complete the application says the personal essay is optional. Are the applicants still required to write the essay on the Colorado Creed or is that the optional personal essay? </p>

<p>I didn't submit anything but the required (no essays or letter of rec) and got accepted. I probably depends on your grades...if you have B average or better I wouldn't bother, otherwise I'd try to put in a little more effort...</p>
