I am a writing tutor who has read numerous essays. For many, they are responding to the prompt, describe the world you come from. Responding with a story of family and coming out would be perfectly acceptable.

If you are responding to the prompt, what is your intended major, then perhaps not. Although it would depend on your major.

Still, what many of you don’t realize is that you speak of your personality, your backgrounds, your religious beliefs and your social groups assuming that they define you any differently. Whether you like it or not, homosexuality can very much define someone during adolescence. Furthermore, it can shape them and/or change them for the rest of their life.

As both a writing tutor and a 34 year old gay man who faced similar struggles, I would be happy to help you form this paper into a perfect personal statement and prove the rest of these folks wrong.
